Greetings ecologgers,

I am seeking volunteers who have an interest in herpetology and/or ecology to
assist with
checking drift fence traps. I am the site manager for a long-term drift fence
study in Ocala
National Forest (a collaboration between the US Forest Service and the
University of Florida).
The study is currently in its 23rd year, and is one of the longest-term studies
of reptile and
amphibian ecology in the world. This is a great opportunity for anyone
interested in gaining
ecological field experience, especially those who have an interest in
herpetology. The drift
fences are checked three times weekly (once each weekend), so there are plenty
opportunities
to volunteer with the study, and no prior experience is needed to volunteer
(only an interest in
ecology). I can provide rides to and from the study sites for anyone interested
in volunteering
who is located in Gainesville, Florida. Those seeking herpetology or
ecology-related jobs
should also note that my current position as site manager of this study will be
open again next
year as I move on to other things, and the strongest candidates for this
position are almost
always those who have volunteered extensively with the study.
