Dear All, We hope that you will consider submitting an abstract to the “Semi-arid shrublands under changing climates" session at the AGU fall meeting. Please find additional details below, and let us know if you have further questions. We hope to see you there!
Session Title: GC063. Semi-arid shrublands under changing climates Session ID: 13892 Session Description: Covering 35% of terrestrial land, arid and semi-arid systems are ripe for increased mechanistic understanding of the effects of increasing pressure from global change on ecosystem and community dynamics. While often overlooked, recent findings have underscored the importance of these ecosystems to global biogeochemistry, specifically their large role in driving interannual variability in the global carbon cycle. Changing climates may affect semi-arid shrublands in novel ways when compared to other systems, as a result of their already variable climatic conditions. This session invites contributions that explore the impact of altered precipitation, increased nutrient deposition, atmospheric carbon dioxide enrichment, warming temperatures, and increased invasion by exotic species on ecological processes in semi-arid shrublands, worldwide. We hope to collectively deepen understanding and improve predictions of how these systems are likely to change, and the impact this may have on both local and global scales. Conveners: Ellen Esch, Elsa Cleland, David Lipson, John Kim To submit an abstract, visit: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm16/preliminaryview.cgi/Session13892.html Abstract submission is open now through August 3rd (11:59pm ET). The meeting dates are December 12 - 16th in San Francisco. Contact Ellen Esch ([email protected]) with questions.
