Environmental Data Intern
Location:
Truckee, CA
Time:
3 days, 24 hours per week. This is a temporary position that starts
immediately and ends September
2016.
Job Summary:
34 North is searching for an intern to assist with data management,
research and GIS tasks for
natural resource management data portals and map story design. 34 North
produces collaborative and
integrated natural resource management software applications for
government agencies and NGOs. The intern
will assist staff with OpenNRM projects including the Sacramento River
Watershed and Sacramento Bay-Delta
portal data management. Both of these projects work heavily with water
quality and natural resource data. To

Primary Responsibilities:

General data entry and data collection
?
GIS data management
?
Creating "wikis" for vegetation types, fish species, wildlife, and other
natural resource assets
?
Finding and managing imagery for data stories
?
Metadata creation and management
?
Data set management for data stories
Requirements/Experience:
?
Meticulous and great attention to detail
?
Familiarity with GIS processes and basic layer management and analysis
tools
?
Ability to create and manage metadata for GIS data and other data sets
?
Experience conducting contextual research on natural resource topics
such as vegetation types, fish
species, wildlife, etc.
?
Motivated, hard-working, self-starter
?
Interest in data management and analysis
?
College level course work in environmental sciences, GIS, data
management, water resources, or a
related field is preferable.
Compensation:
$10-15/hr based on experience
