Habitat restoration and bee tech: Summer Field Technician Needed Location: Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI and field sites in West Michigan
Job Descriptions: We seek a field and laboratory assistant for a project investigating how habitat enhancements in agro-ecosystems influence native bee populations and pathogen prevalence. This project will require extended stays at an MSU field research station near Lake Michigan during August (housing accommodations are covered). The majority of this position involves field work (80%) but will also include laboratory work (20%). Daily tasks may include: travel to field sites in university vehicle (travel time is paid), plant surveys, netting bees and other insects, visual pollinator observations, preparation of specimens for PCR, data entry, labeling, and curating flower and bee specimens. Required Qualifications: -Interest in conservation biology, pollination biology, entomology, field ecology -Valid U.S. driver’s license -Ability to work outside for long periods in a variety of weather conditions -Attention to detail -Ability to work independently and as part of a team Desirable skills: -Plant identification (esp. wildflowers) -Insect collection -Experience with Excel, Word, etc. Job Details: -Employment Period: Early summer (mid-June) until October 31, 2016, with some flexibility on start and end dates.
