This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching environmental science to future elementary school teachers and middle/high school science teachers, scholarship including research publications, conference presentations and research grants, and service through student advising, department, college and university committee assignments and community outreach. The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Science Education with a Master’s in Environmental Science, or a Ph.D. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in environmental science education research. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be complete prior to the beginning of the academic year August 2016. The Department of Science Education at CSU, Chico was established in 2008. The primary role of the department is to provide science content courses for undergraduates interested in pursuing careers in formal and informal education. Faculty in the department have been awarded over $4 million in grant funding; redesigned the course sequence for future elementary teachers; developed a BA in Natural Sciences program (with 44 majors and growing); cultivated a cross-disciplinary community of researchers engaged in discipline based education research; developed strong partnerships with the Gateway Science Museum, Center for Math and Science Education, and the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve; diversified our teacher professional development efforts; and expanded our early practicum experiences for future teachers.
