JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

An opening for a BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN is available at the 
USDA’s Exotic and Invasive Weeds Research Unit in Albany, CA

SALARY:  $10.00 to $18.00 per hour, depending on experience and 
education

LOCATION: USDA, ARS, Exotic and Invasive Weeds Research Unit, 800 
Buchanan Street, Albany, CA  94710

This is a temporary, full/part time position, not to exceed 180 working 
days. There is the possibility of applying for a longer-term technician 
position upon expiration of this term. Applications will be accepted 
from all eligible candidates in the local commuting area.

Duties:  The technicians will assist with research on insect pests and 
invasive plants. Typical duties include: 1) helping rear and maintain 
insect colonies that will be used for various research projects, 2) 
assisting with a variety of tasks in the laboratory, field, and 
greenhouse environment, 3) performing routine and recurring work to 
maintain productivity of the research including sanitizing dishes and 
plant material, maintaining organization of laboratory area, and routine 
plant upkeep.

Work Schedule:  Full or part time (30 to 40 hours/week), typically 
between 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.  

Basic Eligibility Requirements: 1) Must be a U.S. citizen, 2) possess a 
valid driver’s license, 3) adhere to a defined work schedule, 4) 
communicate effectively with supervisor, 5) work well independently or 
in a group setting, 6) candidates with a bachelor’s degree in the 
natural sciences or a related field are preferred.
