Post-doctoral Research Opportunity
Lake Ecosystem Modeling
University of Toronto

We are seeking a postdoc to carry out a research project on the food web of
Lake Simcoe, a highly impacted and economically important lake in Ontario. The
research project involves building an Ecopath with Ecosim model to understand
food web dynamics and predict the consequences of key stressors and management
actions on the Lake Simcoe aquatic community. The project makes use of the
wealth of data collected on the lake, including long-term time series of
plankton, invasive species, and cold- and warm-water fish communities. The
project provides the opportunity to work closely with management agencies,
including researchers from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and
Forestry and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.

We are seeking applications from motivated individuals with strong quantitative
skills, including those with experience building models and in the analysis of
complex (e.g. spatial, temporal, community) ecological data. Applicants should
have an interest in applying research findings to aquatic resource management.
The PDF will be expected to publish in leading scientific journals and present
the research at conferences.

Funding is available for two years at $45,000/yr plus benefits and the PDF will
be located at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of
Toronto (http://www.eeb.utoronto.ca/). We will begin reviewing applications
May 6, 2016. Applicants should submit: a cover letter providing an overview of
their relevant background and indicating when they will be available for the
position; CV; and the names of three references. The application should be
emailed to: Dr. Don Jackson
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>
http://jackson.eeb.utoronto.ca/), Dr. Erin Dunlop
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>), and Dr. Joelle Young
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>). The successful
applicant will be covered under the terms and benefits of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5
Collective Agreement
