AMPHIBIAN FIELD ASSISTANTS NEEDED (More last minute position opening!)

Location:Field work is in the central Sierra Nevada Mountain Range of
California. Job location is Davis, California.
Employment Duration:Approximately 3 months (June to October 2016);
Positions:Biological Technician (Wildlife) GS-04
Hydrological Technician GS-04
Eligibility:US citizens at least 18 years of age.
Background and Job Description:
The USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station (PSW) is
advertising for temporary biological science technicians and
hydrological technicians to serve on a field crew measuring and
monitoring habitat and hydrological conditions and aquatic faunal
responses to inform meadow restoration activities in the Sierra Nevada
Mountains of California. Crews will conduct hydrologic monitoring,
collect habitat data, and conduct amphibian surveys.
These jobs will predominantly consist of field work in the central
Sierra Nevada at high elevations of 7,000-10,000 feet.We are looking for
applicants with interdisciplinary interests including amphibian ecology,
hydrology, and meadow ecology who are in good physical condition and
willing to endure high altitude, temperature extremes, rough terrain,
and the occasional mosquito (ok, maybe thousands).The field work
occasionally requires extreme physical exertion for extended periods
including hiking, walking, wading, and carrying objects weighing over 30
lbs.Physical condition, eyesight, and hearing must be good to conduct
field work accurately, efficiently and safely.Work will require camping
for up to 10 days at a time,travel to different locations in the Sierra
Nevada, and can occur in difficult weather conditions.Ability to get
along with crew members for prolonged periods in the backcountry is a must.
