DUTIES:
At the entry level of this position you will: 
- Assist in the execution and analysis of experiments as a member of one or 
more research teams within the larger framework of the Office of Research 
and Development research projects;
- Assist in modifying, validating and applying methods to assess 
experimental endpoints;
- Provide information and advice on laboratory procedures and operations;
- Assist in implementing and adhering to laboratory, health and safety, and 
quality assurance and other system requirements. 

QUALIFICATIONS
To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full 
time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as assisting in 
research by testing aquatic organisms and collecting environmental samples; 
and participating as part of a laboratory team;

OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progessively 
higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic 
discipline as described above. 

Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your 
competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of aquatic organism 
collection, such as fish, coral crustaceans, and algae samples; 2) Ability 
to work with an interdisciplinary team; 3) Ability to apply new, modified or 
established methods to a research situation; 4) Skill in utilization of 
scientific instrumentation; 5) Knowledge of experimental design and 
statistical analysis; 6) Ability to conduct informational searches; 7) 
Knowledge of quality assurance procedures, standard operating procedures, 
laboratory quality systems, and laboratory health and safety systems; 8) 
Skill in written communication.
