Macaulay Honors College, part of the City University of New York, is in need of a broadly trained ecologist to take over a course for a faculty member leaving at the end of March. The course is Ecological Change and Human Health, and it is a 3-credit special seminar for students interested in how the understanding of ecological principals informs our understanding of human disease dynamics. What are the impacts of global change on human health? What ecological factors do we have to account for when predicting disease outbreaks? We will focus on examples of the interaction between our changing environment and human health around the world. The course will feature a prominent online component. Learning Outcomes - Students will learn principles of ecology and be able to apply these to specific disease examples. - Students will be able to explore and comprehend the primary literature pertaining to this field. - Students will develop their science process skills (ex: designing experiments, generating hypotheses) - Students will recognize the importance of scientific research to the realm of policymaking.”
