Description of Duties:  This position leads, manages and provides oversight for 
the Terrestrial Wildlife Program within the Wildlife Management Division and 
across the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD).  The Terrestrial Wildlife 
Program is responsible for overseeing game, terrestrial nongame, and endangered 
terrestrial wildlife management in Arizona. This includes the collection and 
analysis of wildlife related information to conduct and/or recommend management 
actions, including hunt seasons, permit numbers, season length and timing, 
translocations, habitat management activities, wildlife health monitoring and 
intervention actions.  Provides program leadership for recovery and 
conservation of threatened and endangered terrestrial wildlife as well as 
sensitive species of concern. This includes prioritizing and implementing 
management activities such as wildlife reintroductions, habitat enhancement, 
and population and species monitoring.  Develops short and long-range goals, 
objectives and priorities for the Terrestrial Wildlife program and evaluates 
wildlife resources, programs and program activities and writes and/or edits 
program, strategic and operational plans, policies and procedures.  Ensures 
environmental compliance within project activities and provides briefing and 
position/policy recommendations.  Monitors program outputs against program 
goals. Appraises needs and desires, and collaborates with agencies, user 
groups, recreationists and other special interest groups. Analyzes, writes, 
edits, and/or reviews general correspondence and technical documents, including 
performance reports, progress reports, annual reports, permit applications, and 
environmental documents. Develops budget requests and job, project and funding 
proposals and agreements.  Approves and monitors expenditures; manages office 
and major field equipment, and vehicles. Hires and supervises staff; promotes 
staff development; responds to requests for general information; coordinates 
Terrestrial Wildlife Program activities with state, federal, and other 
agencies, organizations, and the public. Represents AGFD nationally and 
internationally; serves on interagency and other task forces and committees; 
develops (edits, writes, etc.) popular articles, brochures, and promotional 
materials for the Terrestrial Wildlife Program. Advises and acts on behalf of 
the Assistant Director of Wildlife Management; advises and counsels the 
Director and Commission, public, State agencies, other states, and Federal 
agencies in wildlife management goals, objectives, programs, procedures, laws 
and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): The candidate must have knowledge of 
management, research, and conservation policies, procedures, law, regulations 
and programs as they relate to wildlife and related resources.  Experience in 
evaluating wildlife data and developing wildlife management recommendations is 
preferred.  The candidate must be skilled in program development, program 
management and analysis and recognizing and forecasting short and long-range 
resource needs. The candidate will have experience in personnel management, 
supervision, mentoring, delegation, conflict resolution, negotiation, public 
relations, marketing, procurement and State and Federal contracting.  The 
candidate must have strong skills in oral and written communications with the 
ability to communicate clearly and consistently.  The candidate must have the 
ability to interpret state and federal wildlife and environmental laws and 
regulations.  The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in a wildlife science 
or a closely related field and at least four years of prior experience in 
program management and supervision.  An advanced degree in wildlife science and 
experience in wildlife management over multiple wildlife species is preferred.

The position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid 
state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who 
drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must 
maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver 
training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
