Description of Duties: Under direction of the regional Fisheries Program 
Manager, the Aquatic Specialist will be responsible for planning, coordinating, 
conducting, analyzing, and reporting professional fish and wildlife management 
activities and studies for native fish, amphibians, reptiles, and other aquatic 
wildlife within the Sportfish Stocking Conservation and Mitigation Program.  
The position will work in the White Mountains and eastern Mogollon Rim of 
Arizona and be based in the Pinetop Regional Office. Field activities may 
include: reintroduction of native aquatic wildlife (fish, amphibians, reptiles) 
to establish new populations, removal of undesirable nonnative species, 
population monitoring, aquatic habitat and water quality monitoring, habitat 
improvements, and other projects to benefit the conservation of native aquatic 
wildlife. Ensures program coordination with a variety of other Department 
programs as well as with external agencies. Develops and utilizes fish, 
wildlife, and habitat management techniques and develops recommendations within 
Department guidelines. Uses specialized methods, techniques and data processing 
to compile and analyze collected data and other information to formulate and 
present fish and wildlife management findings and recommendations. May oversee 
work, programs, and/or projects related to area of expertise.  Operates and 
performs maintenance on field and survey equipment. Reviews technical 
publications to maintain proficiency in specialty field and participates in 
outreach activities. Reviews and prepares written correspondence with regard to 
program expertise, issues and other administration as well as prepares a 
variety of reports describing planning and implementation of program objectives 
and achievements. May oversee specific work programs and/or projects including 
scheduling project personnel and equipment and providing training.  Performs 
other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must have knowledge of fish and 
wildlife management including techniques, rules, regulations, policies and 
procedures; best management practices for various wildlife-related duties; 
effective training and leadership techniques. The candidate must be skilled in 
employing GPS devices and technology; cameras, backpack electrofishers and 
other relevant tools and equipment; data entry; use of a variety of modes of 
transportation (e.g. 4-wheel drive, ATV's, etc.); outdoor survival skills; 
applied data gathering; customer service; delegation; negotiation; public 
relations. The candidate must have the ability to: develop effective working 
relationships with the general public and co-workers; identify native fishes, 
amphibians, and aquatic reptiles of Arizona.  The preferred candidate will have 
strong skill in written and oral communications.   The candidate must be able 
to hike long distances in rough, remote terrain and be able to camp for 
extended periods of time, in extreme and isolated conditions.  May work 
irregular work schedules that may include weekends and/or holidays.

The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in a wildlife science, fisheries 
science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and 
two years professional experience in fisheries and/or wildlife 
research/management. An advanced degree in fisheries and/or wildlife sciences 
or closely related field from an accredited college or university may 
substitute for one year of required experience.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid 
state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who 
drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must 
maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver 
training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
