Marek Landscaping, LLC is a design-build firm founded in 1996 that 
provides sustainable design and construction services using low-impact 
methods for native aquatic, riparian, upland, and woodland restorations, 
shoreline stabilizations, stormwater and erosion control best management 
practices, multi-use trails, parks and landscapes. We also develop and 
implement land management plans for these projects ensuring long-term 
health and viability. Current projects include bluff, shoreline, and 
wetland restorations for large public projects, non-for-profits, and 
private residences.

We currently have an opening for a Mid to Senior Level Ecologist. This 
position manages the Stewardship division of Marek Landscaping, LLC 
under the direct supervision of the President and Vice President. 

Duties of the position include:

-       Perform ecological assessments, inventories, and surveys, 
analyze data, and report monitoring results.
-       Develop and oversee project work plans, timelines, contracts, 
and budgets/estimates.
-       Plan ecological restoration and management of forests, prairies, 
savannas, wetlands, and dunes, as well as migratory fish habitat in the 
estuary environment.
-       Participate in restoration field work as needed including 
planting, seeding, and erosion control material installation.
-       Provide training and oversight in all aspects of tree and shrub 
care including tree removal and safe operation of chainsaws, brush 
cutters, and other equipment.
-       Train and supervise staff for all stewardship projects, 
including habitat restoration and land management projects.
-       Organize stewardship staff and track projects and performance.
-       Communicate openly and effectively with clients and colleagues.
-       Build and maintain strong client relationships including online 
and in-person marketing and promotion of services as well as at regional 
conferences and trade shows. 
-       Act as burn boss and ignition specialist during prescribed 
burns.  The candidate should hold certificates for NWCG S-130, S-190 and 
be prepared to earn certificates S-234, S-290, S-215, and S-390 within 
one year of hire. 
-       Maintain pesticide certification and guide the safe and 
environmentally informed use and management of herbicides, insecticides, 
and other chemicals.
-       Provide GIS mapping and map production (experience using ArcGIS 
and/or Google Earth Pro) to guide management and provide project updates 
and reports.
-       Safely launch and operate motorized watercraft.


Qualifications:

-       BS (MS preferred) in ecology, botany, natural resource 
management, environmental science, or biology from a recognized 
university.
-       Minimum of 5 years experience conducting vegetation inventories 
and environmental assessments.
-       Extensive knowledge of local plant communities and taxonomy, 
including both native and invasive flora.
-       Licensed/certified pesticide applicator or ability to obtain 
certification within first month.
-       Certified sediment and erosion control inspector or ability to 
obtain certification within first few months.
-       Prescribed fire training (S-130, S-131, S-190, 2-290, S-234) or 
ability to start training immediately upon hire. Wisconsin Prescribed 
Fire Burn Boss a plus. 
-       Ability to lift 50lbs and perform strenuous physical work 
outdoors on potentially steep terrain under a wide variety of weather 
conditions.
-       Experience working with Microsoft Office software, especially 
Word, Excel, and Outlook.
-       Wetland delineation experience and training is desirable.
