"Hatchery Technician"

Description of Duties:  The position will be located at the Aquatic Research 
and Conservation Center in Cornville, Arizona. Duties will include assisting 
staff with caring for and propagating endangered fish, feeding adult and larval 
fish, hatching brine shrimp, cleaning tanks and ponds, adjusting water flows, 
removing and examining dead fish and checking water quality. Assists with 
maintaining hatchery facilities, communicates with the community, vendors and 
supervisors regarding the hatchery facility and research projects. Assists with 
the development of new hatchery facilities and operates Department vehicles to 
transport fish and employees and to acquire necessary supplies. Participates in 
hatchery and Department functions that may involve overnight stays or camping. 
Maintains hatchery security for the public as well as other animal predators 
and will assist with capturing, harvesting, sorting, measuring, tagging, 
transporting, and stocking threatened and endangered fish into approved waters 
across the state of Arizona. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must have knowledge of: fish 
biology, physiology and behavior in an intensive culture hatchery setting, 
basic chemistry, fish pathology, parasitology, and medication/treatment, 
aquaculture techniques in raceway, pond, and circular tank settings, and basic 
trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and the tools and equipment 
used in basic trade.

The candidate will be skilled in: using detailed application techniques for 
medications and chemicals, identifying symptoms of disease/parasites in fish, 
applying public relations and problem-solving techniques, scientific writing 
and basic statistics.

The candidate must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and 
written, maintain interpersonal relationships, organize, operate and maintain 
personal computer and software. The candidate must have the ability to work 
independently and as part of a team, working varied hours in an isolated 
hatchery environment.  The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in a 
wildlife science or closely related field OR have two years of fish research or 
fish hatchery experience.

Employment is contingent upon completion of a post-offer medical/physical 
examination and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any 
restrictions. Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a 
current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.  
Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record 
checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required 
driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
