Ecologist
This is a full time faculty position starting in the 2016/17 academic year.

Evergreen’s Graduate Program on the Environment seeks a faculty colleague to 
help students understand ecological patterns and processes affecting the 
resilience of species and ecosystems in an era of global change. Our students 
will apply this knowledge in a variety of professions including natural 
resource management, education, policy, and research. Evergreen organizes its 
curriculum through interdisciplinary programs, with faculty teams collaborating 
across disciplines to design and teach an integrated graduate-level curriculum. 
We are seeking an ecologist to teach interdisciplinary master’s-level programs 
focused on environmental problem-solving and to advise masters students. The 
ability to foster strong understanding of scientific material in students with 
diverse backgrounds is more important than the specific area of expertise of 
the candidate.  We are particularly interested in applicants who would excel at 
teaching ecological statistics and research design.  Further, the ideal 
candidate has the ability and passion to integrate the study of environmental 
sciences with social sciences like economics, geography, and history.

A successful candidate must be able to: 1) teach foundational material and 
advanced topics in one or more of the following areas: conservation biology, 
population ecology, landscape ecology, restoration ecology, global change 
biology; 2) teach in interdisciplinary teams that integrate social and natural 
sciences to understand complex environmental issues; 3) teach foundational 
material and advanced topics in research design and quantitative methods 
including statistical analysis; 4) help students develop expertise in current 
analytical and methodological tools employed in ecology; and 5) mentor thesis 
students in diverse research projects within the environmental sciences.

This is a regular faculty position dedicated to graduate students, with primary 
teaching responsibilities in the evening and substantial responsibilities for 
advising thesis research. Faculty in this position may periodically rotate into 
the undergraduate daytime curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, or related field;
Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience;
Ability to teach research and writing skills; and
Ability to mentor graduate students in thesis research.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate training in interdisciplinary research (e.g. IGERT fellows);
Research or teaching experience in multiple areas of desired expertise;
Experience or demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary teaching; and
Experience or demonstrated interest in teaching research design and statistics.
