Position Description    
The Conservation and Land Management Internship Program (CLM Program) is hiring 
a botany intern 
to join a small botany survey crew which will conduct inventories for rare 
plants and invasive weeds, 
document findings of inventories, flag rare plant and invasive weed sites, 
assist crew leaders in 
ensuring consistency with Forest and NRIS TESP-IS (the national Forest Service 
database) protocols 
and conduct data entry of survey data into MS Excel spreadsheets, MS Access 
databases and ArcMap 
GIS files. The botany crew will also work on weed control projects using manual 
methods.  One 
position will work in the 2013 Rim Fire burned area, providing an excellent 
opportunity to see plant 
succession two years post-wildfire.

Desired skills include experience in plant identification using taxonomic keys, 
familiarity with 
California flora, basic proficiency with GIS and GPS, basic orienteering skills 
(reading topographic 
maps, using compass, cross-country hiking), ability to hike in rugged terrain 
for long distances, and 
ability to drive a government vehicle. Must have a valid state driver's 
license. Experience or 
coursework in non-vascular plant ID would be an asset.

The Groveland Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest is situated 
adjacent to Yosemite 
National Park in the Central Sierra Nevada. Numerous recreational opportunities 
exist in the National 
Forest, in nearby Yosemite National Park, and all throughout the historic 
Mother Lode area.  These 
include backpacking, rock climbing, hiking and white water rafting.  Excellent 
touring and mountain 
bicycling opportunities exist.  Numerous reservoirs in the area also offer 
boating and fishing 
opportunities, including Cherry Lake at nearly 5,000 feet elevation.  Columbia 
State Historic Park and 
Calaveras Big Trees State Park offer unique interpretive and sight-seeing 
opportunities. 

Employment Requirements
-       Position open to US citizens only
-       Minimum of a bachelors degree in botany, ecology, or related fields
-       Previous experience with dichotomous keys 
-       Knowledge of the flora of California
-       Experience with GPS, Microsoft Office suite
-       High level of organizational skill; ability to self-motivate and work 
independently, and 
sometimes alone.
-       Ability to work well with others, and as a team
-       Valid driver’s license
