The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER, www.ser.org) is the leading
global organization for facilitating the science and practice of ecological
restoration.  With members in 70 countries, the Society operates through
regional chapters, non-geographic sections, and directly with the
membership through various programs including our publications, outreach
programs and extension.  Regional, national and international conferences
are a leading aspect of the Society’s operations that bring together a
range of stakeholders from government, industry, academia and community.
The Society also has active collaborations with a range of partner
organizations that expand the capacity and outreach of SER.

The Society is embarking on a new phase of its operation, as we seek to
expand our relevance through conference programs, release new publications,
grow international membership, and develop global partnerships.

To fulfill these exciting and ambitious growth areas, the Society is
seeking the services of a dynamic, motivated and articulate Executive
Director, who can demonstrate they have the capabilities and drive to take
the Society to new levels of activity that will focus upon:
- Building strong and enduring national and international membership.
- Developing and implementing a robust sponsorship and benefactor program
to guarantee the financial security of SER into the long-term.
- Enhancing the presence and reach of SER in all aspects of ecological
restoration at all stakeholder levels and delivery on key program
initiatives.

Headquartered in Washington DC with a small but highly professional and
dedicated staff, the new Executive Director will report to the Society’s
Board of Directors and be expected to demonstrate outstanding initiative
and leadership skills to take SER to new national and international levels
of activity.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for the ED position include: fundraising,
representing the Society with global partners and the public, managing
day-to-day operations and supervising a three-person staff, and overseeing
the Society’s conference programs, publications, membership services, and
global partnerships.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate and provide evidence of the
following essential attributes:
- Familiarity with the concepts and principles of ecological restoration
and related fields.
- Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education
and work experience.
- Experience in a leadership role preferably with a non-profit
organization(s)
- Experience in organizational financial management and overall budget
development.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience and proven success in fundraising activities
- Experience and success working and interacting with a Board of Directors
- International experience – preferably with a multi-cultural and diverse
audience
- Willingness to both travel locally and internationally as required in
support of the organizations goals
- Experience with membership database software and issues related to
membership management.
- Experience in the facilitation and oversight of strategic planning
processes including associated work plan development.
