The Baltimore Earth Stewardship Initiative (ESI) is a large-scale demonstration
project to be held
during the 100th annual Ecological Society of America (ESA) conference in
Baltimore on August
9th-14th, 2015. The initiative is part of the ESA’s broader Earth stewardship
goal of shaping
trajectories of social ecological change to enhance ecosystem resilience and
human wellbeing.
The Baltimore ESI will involve ecologists, urban designers, and students in
real-world community
planning, outreach, and education. This weeklong initiative aims to increase
the relevance of
ecologists in urban planning and design, while supporting socio-ecological
revitalization at
several sites in Baltimore. We are currently seeking applications for graduate
research fellows to
serve as the leaders, organizers, and documenters of the Earth Stewardship
Initiative, as well as
research assistants and design students interested in incorporating ecological
science into
grassroots planning and design. For more information about the ESI and to get
involved visit
