Job Description:
The USGS Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center, Corvallis Research
Group, is seeking eight (8) full-time, seasonal field technicians (GS-05) to
assist on a large-scale study evaluating the competitive impacts of barred
owls on population demography of northern spotted owls in the Pacific

summarizing data obtained during nighttime occupancy surveys of barred owls
and spotted owls. Successful applicants should expect to spend
approximately 85% of time performing field surveys, while the remaining 15%
will involve data entry and other office tasks. Each technician must be
able to work under the supervision of a crew leader and have strong teamwork
skills, but he/she will be primarily conducting data collection
independently at night following an established protocol. The position
requires driving four-wheel-drive vehicles on primitive forest roads at
night and navigating steep terrain on foot to access survey sites in the
day. Orienteering skills, including the use of maps, compass, and handheld
GPS units, are essential. This is a full time, seasonal (6-month)
appointment not to exceed 180 days. Two positions will be based in each of
the four study areas listed above; applicants should state their top two
location preferences in their application materials (see below).

Salary: $15.15 per hour, 40 hours per week
