Dear Listers:

How common is for Plexiglas devices (e.g. LaMotte Water Sampler Model JT-1
Code 1077) to break upon impact with a hard substrate?

Background: This morning, an undergraduate researcher and I were taking
water samples. While in six of our sites, the run is shallow enough to take
the samples directly, manually, and effortlessly,a seventh site is 15-20
feet underground. Hence we tried to use a LaMotte Water Sampler Model JT-1
Code 1077. However, upon its slow release (= it was not a free fall), it
broke when it hit hard substrate.

Although I have an idea to solve the problem, I would like to know what are
colleagues doing to solve these type of problems. In the specific case of
the LaMotte Water Sampler Model JT-1 Code 1077, perhaps your solution is
better than what I have in mind. If you wish to reply, please send an email
directly to me to this email address: [email protected]

Apologies for potential duplicate emails.

Gratefully,

Jorge
