The Peery Conservation Biology Lab is seeking an outstanding student to pursue a PhD in conservation biology and climate change modeling in the Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology (FWE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The student’s dissertation will involve developing and implementing spatially-explicit population models to assess climate-change risks and develop adaptation strategies for native vertebrates in the Great Lakes Region. Models will be developed and parameterized using existing demographic data as well as landscape-scale genetic data to model connectivity among populations. Additional research components could be added depending on shared interests and funding opportunities.
Applicants must possess a master’s degree in animal ecology or closely related field. Applicants with strong quantitative skills and an interest in molecular ecology will be given preference. To be considered for this position, please send a cover letter outlining your interests and research background, a curriculum vitae (including GPA and GRE scores), and contact information for three professional references (name, email, phone, address) as either a PDF or MS Word file to [email protected] with ‘Climate Change PhD Application’ in the subject line. The selected student is expected to enroll at the UW-Madison in the Fall Semester of 2015. More details on the graduate programs can be found at http://forestandwildlifeecology.wisc.edu/grad.htm. Application materials will be accepted until Oct 30, 2014 or until a suitable candidate is found.
