Dear Ecolog,

We encourage submissions from the ecology community to the AGU session on
uncertainty and impacts on decision making. Abstract submissions are due
August 6th. Questions can be directly to me.

Thanks for your consideration,

Ray

"Uncertainty and sensitivity in models and observations and their impacts on
decision making related to geological, hydrological and environmental
applications"
Session ID#: 1628
Session Description:

Uncertainty and sensitivity in models and observations can have a major impact
on environmental management decision making related to diverse applications
such as land surface modeling, energy and mineral exploration and development,
water resources management, and contaminant fate and transport. However,
potentially sparse observations have uncertainty and sensitivity that are often
poorly quantified, while computational model representations of physical
processes involve unknowns and complexities at multiple temporal and spatial
scales. We seek contributions that discuss innovative approaches to
characterizing model, observational, and decision uncertainties. Examples might
include (but are not limited to) demonstrations of new or improved
probabilistic and non-probabilistic methods that account for risks,
uncertainties, unknowns and complexities associated with environmental
management and applications. We especially encourage contributions that bridge
multiple spatial scales; integrate field observations, remote sensing, and
modeling; or which incorporate multi-disciplinary approaches to assess and
integrate environmental uncertainty and sensitivity in applications and
decision making processes.
