Hello,
Our session for the December American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting may be
of interest to some folks. Abstracts will be due August 6.

Session title:
Salinization of Freshwater and Terrestrial Environments: Fate, Transport,
Trends, Impacts on Biota and Biogeochemistry, and Solutions

Session description:
Salinization of soil and freshwater resources is occurring in many regions
around the world; major drivers include road salt application in cold
regions, saltwater encroachment into groundwater in some coastal areas, and
irrigation of semi-arid agricultural regions. This session seeks to bring
together the many facets of research necessary to understand how
salinization is affecting terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems in these
areas as well as considering future impacts and potential solutions. We
welcome submissions investigating the physical and chemical nature of the
issue (e.g. transport and residence time of salt in the vadose zone and
salinization of groundwater and surface water) as well as biological impacts
(e.g. alteration to biogeochemical cycling, microbial communities,
vegetation). Research at any spatial or temporal scale is welcome that
addresses the physical dynamics or environmental impacts of salinization.
