My name is Darrian Washinger and I am a junior Ecology major at Susquehanna
University. I am looking for an opportunity to gain field research
experience, thus teaching me the skills necessary to work on a career in field
biology, specifically wildlife conservation. In particular, I’m interested in
learning about wildlife surveying, mark-recapture methods, and other
techniques that will expand my skill set and provide me with experience
handling wildlife. To begin developing research skills, I am currently working
on a project in collaboration with Dr. Iudica, focused on determining the
correlation between weather events and coyote. Through this experience, I have
gained an appreciation of the role of basic science in wildlife management by
helping me think and ask questions in a more scientific manner. Additionally,
it has allowed me to developed skills essential to scientific research, such
as patience, the ability to overcome challenges, time-management,
communication, organizational, and analytical skills. While this has allowed
me to gain research experience in the laboratory, I am interested in having
the opportunity to learn more about the multi-step processes of field
research. I am available to work from May 31 to August 16, 2014. References
and resume available upon request. If you need help this summer in the field,
please contact me directly at [email protected]. Thank you, DW.
