Jane and others looking at summer programs,
Please do take a look at program's websites, or contact the program
coordinators, to see if they offer flexibility. I can only speak for my
program, but we do offer as much flexibility as possible in consultation
with specific students and mentors. I don't have much extra time to work
with, either...there are only ~2 school-free weeks on each side of my
10-week program, and I begin to run into logistical constraints for
housing, etc. Another concern is that students who cannot make the start of
the program miss out on some of the cohort experience, but we have had
several students lately in this situation who have been fine.
