Meeting Announcement and Call for Contributed Talks and Posters 3rd Symposium on Urbanization and Stream Ecology (SUSE) Crowne Plaza Hotel, Portland, Oregon May 15-17, 2014
This two-and-a-half day symposium will bring together scientists from around the world to share research results, synthesize knowledge, and discuss future research direction in the field of urban stream ecology. The goal of this meeting is to improve our mechanistic understanding of urban streams and identify differences driving global variability in stream response to urbanization. The format of the meeting will include contributed new research talks and posters, short global perspective talks, and interactive discussions. We invite members of the scientific community to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations. Talks should have some connection to the meeting theme, mechanisms of urban impacts on stream ecosystems, and will be 12 minutes with 3 minutes for question and answer. Posters should bear similar content and be no more than 45 inches high x 45.5 inches high. Abstracts are limited to 180 words, and should be submitted online at <http://urbanstreams.wordpress.com/registrationabstracts/> by Friday, March 2nd. We are specifically seeking researchers in various regions of the globe to contribute 5-8 minute mini talks describing the urban stream syndrome in their respective regions of study. These talks will follow a prescribed format, and will conclude with a panel discussion on global diversity of mechanisms and responses. If you have not already expressed your interest via the website, please contact Allison Roy [email protected] with your proposed region. Contributors to the global diversity mini-talks are not excluded from other oral or poster presentations. The symposium will be held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel on May 15-17, immediately prior to the Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting (JASM). Preregistration for SUSE 2014 is now open and will remain open until March 2nd through the same portal as abstract submission. We will contact you again in March where you can formally register and pay for the conference and events. The total cost of the conference is dependent on grant funding. Registration and event fees will be approximately $25 to $125 depending on support. Please note, the Crowne Plaza is also associated with the JASM meeting; thus discounted rooms ($152/night) can be obtained for the entire period (May 15-17; May 18-24) via the link on the Details page of our website or by calling the hotel (503-233-2401) and mentioning the meeting name (Symposium on Urbanization and Stream Ecology). Additional meeting details, including a preliminary schedule, will be posted on the urban streams website <http://urbanstreams.wordpress.com/>. If you have questions regarding the conference, please contact us at [email protected].
