Title: Assistant Professor, Avian Wildlife Ecologist
 
Location:  School of Environment and Natural Resources, College of Food, 
Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio
 
Position Description: We seek applicants for assistant professor of wildlife 
ecology with expertise in ecology, conservation, and management of bird 
communities in landscapes of the midwest and/or eastern U.S.
 
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position in the School of 
Environment and Natural Resources (SENR). Competitive candidates will have 
demonstrated expertise in ecology and conservation of non-game birds in 
terrestrial ecosystems.   The successful applicant will bring a strong, 
interdisciplinary perspective that complements existing expertise within our 
Terrestrial Wildlife Ecology Laboratory and the School of Environment & Natural 
Resources.  Applicants must demonstrate their ability to apply ecological 
principles to conservation and management of avian populations or communities, 
and capacity to contribute to the natural resources mission of SENR.
 
The incumbent will be expected to develop a nationally-recognized research 
program, contribute to undergraduate instruction, advising in the Forestry, 
Fisheries and Wildlife undergraduate major, provide graduate advising and 
instruction, and provide professional and university service.
 
Expectations and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Teach undergraduate courses in avian ecology and management, habitat 
management, and/or wildlife science; and graduate course(s) in area of research 
specialization.

•  Advise undergraduate, honors undergraduate, and graduate students; advise 
student organizations as needed.

• Develop an extramurally-funded research program with primary emphasis on 
avian population or community ecology and habitat conservation in forest, 
grassland, agricultural, and urban landscapes.

• Direct (PI), collaborate (Co-PI), or contribute expertise as needed on 
research projects funded through the Terrestrial Wildlife Ecology Laboratory by 
annual agreement with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of 
Wildlife.

• Secure extramural funding and publish in refereed journals.
• Work collaboratively with other University faculty/personnel, agencies, 
non-government organizations, and citizen groups to advance the land grant 
mission of the University.

• Serve the University and professional communities through appropriate 
activities.

Qualifications:  An earned Ph.D. with strong academic background in wildlife 
science, conservation biology, zoology, ecology, natural resources, or related 
field of study.  Postdoctoral experience is preferred, but not necessary. The 
ideal candidate will also have at least one degree in wildlife science and 
management, and demonstrated ability to secure funding from diverse regional or 
national sources, and build a solid teaching, research, and outreach program.
 
Salary/Support: Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.  The Ohio
