Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce an Integrative Session for the Joint Aquatic
Sciences Meeting, 18 - 23 May 2014, Portland, OR
(http://www.sgmeet.com/jasm2014/). Sponsored by the International Society for
River Science, the session invites submissions from all participants in the
conference who are studying how modification of rivers has influence physical,
chemical, or biological form and function. A description of the session is
included below. Contact any of the organizers for additional information.
Abstract deadline is 7 February 2014. Abstracts are to be submitted via
http://www.sgmeet.com/jasm2014/.

Integrative Session #053 - International Society for River Science: Physical,
Chemical, and Biological Changes in Modified Rivers

This special session would consist of presentations addressing the impacts of
river modification on the physical, chemical, and biological character of
within riverine landscapes. A critical element of this session would be
presentations that work across the disciplines of ecology, hydrology, and
geomorphology. An interdisciplinary approach is essential to the advancement of
river science given the growing recognition that changes across the hierarchy
of one of these fields has implications to the processes occurring in one or
both of the other disciplines. Topic examples would include, but not be limited
to impacts of: hydrological changes on river or floodplain geomorphology; loss
of lateral connectivity on wetland and floodplain processes; loss of nutrient
retention or increased nutrient loading on system processes; hydrological or
geomorphological modification on population, community, or ecosystem ecology;
and invasive species, including increased success through river modification.
