ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Department of Natural Resources and the
Environment (NREN), a unit within the College of Life Sciences and
Agriculture at the University of New Hampshire, invites applicants
for a full-time (9 month) tenure track faculty position in
Environmental Policy at the Assistant Professor rank. Preferred
starting date is August 18, 2014.
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. with an interdisciplinary
background and training in the policy sciences, and a focus on the
practical applications of policy tools to address natural resource
and environmental issues. Primary affiliation within the department
will be with the Environmental Conservation and Sustainability
Program (ECS), although courses taught will serve other undergraduate
programs within the department. The ECS Program is designed to
engage students in a sustainability focus, fostering the integration
of human dimensions of ecological systems. Candidates should be
enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary setting that
includes natural and social sciences.
The department offers seven BS programs: Environmental Conservation
and Sustainability, Environmental Science, Community and
Environmental Planning, Forestry, Tourism Planning and Development,
Environmental and Resource Economics, and Wildlife and Conservation
Biology. The department's M.S. in Natural Resources provides
advanced education in areas parallel to the undergraduate
degrees. In addition, department faculty participate in the
interdisciplinary, university-wide doctoral program in Natural
Resources and Earth System Science (NRESS). Our programs focus on
preparing undergraduate students for careers in the applied natural
and social sciences as well as for undertaking graduate work in
research and professional programs. We expect and thrive on
cross-disciplinary and integrative approaches to teaching and
research. More information about the department can be found at:

RESPONSIBILITIES: It is expected that the successful applicant will
ultimately teach at least 3 courses. A primary teaching
responsibility will be the undergraduate course in Environmental
Policy, required of most of the department's majors. Additional
policy courses at the graduate and undergraduate level will focus on
other aspects of human dimensions of natural resources and
environmental management. Faculty are expected to advise students in
the department's undergraduate programs. The successful candidate
will be expected to develop an independent and collaborative research
program, involving undergraduate and graduate students, that meets
the research needs of the state, the region and beyond, and to build
departmental and interdisciplinary collaborations. The candidate will
be expected and encouraged to develop a focus in the environmental
policy science arena with emphasis in applied aspects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must have a Ph.D. with a focus
in the environmental policy sciences. Knowledge of the legal aspects
of policy is also desirable. Candidates with an interdisciplinary
