I am working with Dr. Nanci Ross at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. We are interested in investigating the possible variation in chromosome count in the American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) across North America. We are asking for samples of stem tips and/or leaves to be sent to our lab from known American persimmon stands or independent trees in the landscape. The information that we would like to have attached is as follows:
1. GPS coordinate (this can be taken from a smartphone, GPS unit, or the closest road intersection can suffice if these are not available). 2. Sex of the tree, if available. 3. General observations of the area (is the tree on a slope, proximity to a water source, is the tree in a residential area, is it a managed cultivar, etc.). Samples can be mailed in a Ziploc baggie within a flexible mailing envelope. Please limit each tree sample to its own Ziploc with accompanying information. Please feel free to email me if any questions arise. Thanks, Andrew Rupiper Research Assistant Drake University 2013 [email protected] Environmental Science & Policy
