In response to some inquiries about the availability of Shirley Soil Burial Test Fabric, please be aware of a relatively new cotton-based decomposition assay. Cotton strips manufactured from artist’s fabric were proposed as an alternative to the no-longer-available Shirley material by Slocum et al. (2009). The artist’s fabric assay has been recently elaborated upon, and cotton strip construction and tensile-strength determination is being performed on a contract basis.
