Program Coordinator
Youth/Educator and Corporate Programs

The Position
Earthwatch is seeking an organized and versatile individual, with experience in 
coordinating programs and a solid understanding of science. The Program 
Coordinator will be responsible for supporting Program Managers in the creation 
and delivery of programs, especially all aspects of preparing participants for 
their expeditions. He or she will be assigned specific programs to work on but 
will work closely with a team of Program Coordinators to provide support to the 
organization in completing the mission.

The role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to interact 
collaboratively across internal departments and with executive level donors. 
The role may also include coordination of research programs, engagement 
activities, facilitation and delivery, formatting of briefings and other 
documents and administrative support, being creative and flexible in an often 
fast paced environment.

Responsibilities will include:

Overall responsibilities of all Program Coordinators may include:


1.       Fielding Participants

*         Preparation of participants across assigned programs (public, 
educator, corporate, etc)

*         Delivery high quality customer service & participant stewardship

*         Screening participant health/safety and travel forms

*         Act as Field Delivery Team member as appropriate to 
facilitate/support programs


2.       Applications & Selections

*         Work with partners to select fellows

*         Review fellowship applications

*         Coordinate fellowship application process

*         Assist in the creation of marketing materials to recruit participants


3.       Data Collection

*         Collection of evaluation data and creation of reports

*         Provision of program information for Earthwatch publications

*         Communicate results from projects to internally and externally


4.       Incident Management & Risk Assessment Support

*         Test emergency response plans

*         Creating & updating threat assessments


5.       Database/Web

*         Enter project, program & participant information into a CRM database

*         Update Measures of Success database

*         Ensure updates on current partnerships are provided to Marketing for 
Earthwatch website


6.       Scientist Communications

*         Make field payments

*         Collect field reports

*         Collate key project documents

*         Send participant information to PIs

*         Collect briefing updates from PIs and provide to PMs

*         Collect post-fielding feedback from PIs


7.       Program Documents

*         Coordinate creation of key program materials (pre-work etc)

*         Coordinate translation of materials as appropriate

*         Work with Marketing on design & production of materials

Qualifications and experience:

Summary Requirements

*         Relevant degree in science or environmental studies/sustainability

*         Interest in NGO sector and working globally across different regions

*         Proven track record in project and program coordination and delivery

*         Strong interpersonal skills

  *   Ability to prioritize or to seek appropriate guidance when prioritization 
is required.

*         Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is desired, but not required

Experience
This position will be a multi-functional role, supporting the Program Team to 
fulfil deliverables under the global, regional and local projects including 
corporate, student and teacher programs.  The person selected will be 
detail-oriented and able to manage and respond to tasks effectively, learning 
from peers and managers and spotting opportunities to do things better.   This 
position requires a demonstrable understanding of and interest in science. Must 
be willing and able to provide support in the field, including support for risk 
management, logistics or presentation/facilitation (approximately 20% of the 
time).

Earthwatch's mission is to engage people worldwide in scientific field research 
and education to promote a sustainable environment.  Every year Earthwatch 
awards grants of over $6 million in support of as many as 70 research projects 
around the world. These grants are partly funded by  volunteers from the 
general public and our partner organizations who sign up for expeditions to 
join our scientists as research assistants. This model provides essential 
funding for long-term research and a workforce of committed volunteers.
Earthwatch fellowships enable critical partners to participate in research 
expeditions worldwide. Each year, Earthwatch's Fellowship Programs enable 
hundreds of students, teachers, conservation professionals and corporate 
employees to join expeditions at little or no out-of-pocket expense. Earthwatch 
Fellows are emissaries of the Earthwatch mission, sharing their experiences and 
new knowledge with thousands of students, teachers, and colleagues upon their 
return.

Paygrade/Job Banding
B9-B25  $33,000-$37,500
