Assistant Professor of Computational Genetics and Bioinformatics
The Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences at Virginia Tech
seeks applications for a 9-month tenure-track research/teaching faculty
position. Research should focus on elucidation of the genetic basis
underlying complex traits through effective mining of large
multi-dimensional datasets using computational methods and bioinformatics
tools and application of the obtained knowledge toward crop improvement.
The selected candidate will be expected to obtain funding from competitive,
national granting agencies. She or he should also be effective in
collaboration with fellow scientists in this and sister departments and in
University-associated centers including Virginia Bioinformatics Institute
(VBI). This individual is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in relevant subjects including bioinformatics. Qualifications
include a Ph.D. in Computational/Statistical/Quantitative Genetics,
Bioinformatics, Genomics, or a closely related field. Demonstrated
knowledge/experience in genetics is required. Demonstrable experience and
research success using Bioinformatics in the analysis and interpretation of
high-throughput data sets generated using various omics tools are
desirable. Incumbent should have a demonstrated ability or the potential to
work collaboratively, teach and mentor students, obtain extramural funding,
and publish results.
