Position: Lecturer

Position Description:
The Department of Entomology seeks applicants for a fulltime, annually
renewable, 9-month non-tenure track lecturer position. The incumbent
would be asked to teach the courses listed below:

Qualifications:
A doctorate in Entomology or closely related discipline or Master’s
degree in Entomology or closely related discipline with 1-2 years
related experience is required. Experience having served as a teaching
assistant in entomology at the college level is highly desirable.
Preferred qualifications include evidence of successfully coordinating
educational programs, classes and projects; evidence of successfully
planning, implementing, and evaluating classes, events, workshops,
short courses, and other activities; evidence of producing
high-quality educational curriculum and materials; and evidence of
successful use of the Internet to deliver education programs and
materials.

Course Assignments will vary by semester, but may include:
FIVS 205, 3 cr. Introduction to Forensic Sciences (2 lecture
sections).  The incumbent will need to be an active forensic scientist
capable of teaching an introductory course that covers a broad range
of disciplines within the field.  This is the first professional
course in Forensic Science that our entering students into Forensic
and Investigative Sciences major will take.  It takes a knowledgeable
and skilled lecturer to keep this 200 person class engaged and
enthused about the field of Forensic Science.  This is a 3 credit
lecture only course.  The demand is so high that two separate lecture
sections are now being planned for Fall 2013.   The instructor will
supervise a Teaching Assistant in the execution and management of this
course.
ENTO 208, 3 cr. Veterinary Entomology, (2 lecture sections) including
honors sections.  This is a key service course in the pre-vet
curriculum and allied majors that can have up to 200 students taking
the lecture and lab course.  TAs will be provided for the 12 to 15
laboratory sections.  The instructor will be responsible for lab TA
coordination along with being the primary classroom instructor.
ENTO 313, 3 cr Biology of Insects.  A smaller course with 25 to 45
students who are mostly taking Entomology as a double major and thus
are coming into Entomology with a background in a related biological
discipline, e.g., Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences, Biomedical Science,
Horticulture, etc.  This is a lecture and lab based course. The
instructor will supervise a Teaching Assistant for the laboratory
portion of the course.
ENTO 423, 3 cr. Medical Entomology (1 lecture, 4 laboratory sections).
 This course serves ENTO majors, double majors, and the undergraduate
certificate in Public Health Entomology.  The instructor will
supervise a Teaching Assistant in the execution and management of this
course.
ENTO 481W, 1 cr. Undergraduate Seminar, a writing intensive course
that will have a student to faculty/lecturer ratio of no more than 15
to 1.  It is expected that students will hone their scientific writing
skills by summarizing scientific literature, attending and summarizing
seminars and interpreting data sets.  Biweekly writing assignments are
to be edited and formative feedback provided for student revisions and
writing improvement.   The University Writing Center provides guidance

ENTO/FIVS 432, 1 cr.  Applied Forensic Entomology, (multiple lab
sections ).  Students enrolled in this course are co-enrolled in a
lecture course ENTO/FIVS 431 The Science of Forensic Entomology, thus
the lecturer will coordinate laboratory teaching and case studies with
the instructor for ENTO/FIVS 431.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
·         Deliver high-quality lectures on course subject matter
·         Develop attractive visual aids and other course materials to
supplement lectures and laboratory exercises.
·         Write a comprehensive syllabus for the assigned course that
adheres to the syllabus guidelines posted on the curricular services
website and post it in the Howdy portal before the first day of class.
·         Upload current curriculum vitae into the Howdy portal.
·         Prepare quizzes, test, exams and other evaluative materials
needed to assess student progress toward the learning outcomes
established for the class.
·         If the course has an associated lab, coordinate all lab
sessions including the acquisition of all materials needed for
conducting the lab. Insure that student have mandated safety training
as needed.
