Dear Colleagues, The Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI<http://www.cuahsi.org/>) would like to invite you to join us for our free spring cyberseminar series. The theme of the semester is "Complimentary Methods and Models<http://www.cuahsi.org/Cyberseminars.aspx>" and highlights water-related research by leading scientists in the water science community.
This Friday, April 5th from 3:00pm-4:00pm ET, our cyberseminar speaker is Dr. Jan Willem Foppen, Associate Professor of Hydrology at UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, and is giving a talk discussing the Application of Synthetic DNA in Stream Tracer Injection Experiments. Cyberseminar Abstract: Stream tracer injection experiments are popular for characterizing hydrological and biogeochemical processes in streams. We used short fragments of single stranded uniquely coded synthetic DNA and NaCl, and we carried out instantaneous stream tracer injection experiments in various streams in the Benelux. In this talk, I will focus on the error analysis of the 'DNA-method', the terms of the mass balance of synthetic DNA in those injection experiments, and I will compare its performance with NaCl. Furthermore, I will indicate the obstacles we encountered and what future applications could be. To join the cyberseminar: Use the following link to connect to the cyberseminar on Friday, 4/5: http://cuahsi.adobeconnect.com/foppen/. For audio, (1) have the Adobe Connect system call you back automatically (does not work if you have a phone extension or are calling from outside the U.S. or Canada - must dial in separately) or (2) dial in directly using connection information below.
