Hi, Has anyone ever added syringol to soil or even other types of medium? I'm running some long-term soil incubations with syringol as one of the substrate treatments and have found that almost immediately the soils turn either purple or dark red depending on clay mineralogy. It appears to be some abiotic reaction but I'm not sure what would cause this nor what the products of such a reaction would be. I should note that this also occurred in a subset of sterilized soils. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Cynthia
