Hello all--

I'm looking for some advice on surface-sterilization of seedling root
systems. I am transplanting 2-month-old Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga
menziesii) seedlings and have noticed light molding along the root
system 1-2 days post-transplantation into a nutrient-rich medium. (The
root systems looked clean upon examination before transplantation.)

I was wondering if a gentle rinse in bleach or hydrogen peroxide might
kill off this contaminant, without damaging the seedlings. Has anyone
had any experience with this before, or, even better, have a protocol
that they recommend?

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

Best,
Holly
