The Pennsylvania State University is recruiting an exceptional postdoctoral research fellow to pursue cutting edge research in Biogeochemical Cycles. Position will be supported by the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment (PSIEE) at Penn State, University Park, PA, and will include a highly competitive salary, funds for travel and supplies, and the opportunity to participate in an innovative future faculty development program. This position is part of an initiative to enhance the already vigorous program of environmental and energy research and education at Penn State, and reinforces the university's internationally recognized leadership in multidisciplinary research. This position represents an exceptional opportunity to develop new research projects in collaboration with two or more Penn State faculty. The deadline for abstract submission is August 8, 2012. Description: Forests recovering from disturbance are strong carbon sinks and play an important role in Earth's climate system. Climate change is likely to alter forest recovery dynamics or even prevent recovery, and changes in disturbance-recovery dynamics will impact both biogeochemical and biophysical interactions with the climate system. This session will focus on improving understanding of the role of secondary forests in the changing climate system. In particular, it will address both the mechanisms through which altered atmospheric CO2 and climate are likely to impact recovery patterns, including physiological responses, successional dynamics, and biogeochemical cycling, and the expected biogeochemical and biophysical climate feedbacks.
