I don't have any specific recommendations, as I don't know the Ottawa area
that well.
I would just offer to not let a fear of bears determine where you go and
what you do.
In my 50+ years I have spent months in Rockies, Alaska, Canadian
wilderness (mostly in northwestern Ontario) and have run across very few
bears while in the back country- 2 in the Rockies, 2 in Alaska. The black
bears of eastern North America are quite docile- there are very few reports
of attacks. I would suggest that you are more apt to encounter bears in
campgrounds, than in the back country.

I have heard that canoeing in Algonquin Provincial Park is great, but
perhaps something not to do solo.

Best of luck - hope you have a great time.

Regards,
Jim
