In response to the data entry in the field query I definitely recommend investing in an electronic alternative for data entry as it saves a huge amount of time. I've used both a Trimble Rugged PC and a less specialised HP iPAQ 200 Enterprise Handheld. Both are excellent options. They have Microsoft Office installed and you simply enter the data in your excel file using a stylus.
The HP option is much more affordable though. ~€200 I think and if you buy an aquapac (a waterproof soft rubber casing) you can still enter data easily in the rain using the stylus. Glare is a bit of an issue but I managed just fine despite it. Just don't forget to back up everything daily.
