Hello Everyone –

Several people have written recently inquire about how La MICA Biological
Station is doing since the unexpected demise of our nonprofit fiscal sponsor in
mid-January (see http://www.lamica.org/ppsupport.htmlfor more details). We
would like to pass along an update.

First, thank you to everyone for all of your concern and encouragement through
this very difficult time. Thank you very much to those of you who kindly
offered donations despite the fact that you could not receive a tax deduction
for your gift. It is these very funds that have kept our project alive over the
past nearly three months. Also, thank you to our recent students and group who
volunteered a great amount of help around La MICA and provided some work for
our local people. Finally, thank you to the local people who continue to
sacrifice for and believe in this project.

We currently are working on arrangements with another fiscal sponsor. We are
waiting to make the grand announcement until everything is completely in order,
but we are very excited and thankful for the opportunity. We also have begun
paperwork to set up our own independent nonprofit organization. This process
can take up to a year to finalize, so we will utilize a fiscal sponsor until
everything is in order.

So, right now we continue a holding pattern; we are not making any significant
advancement, but are maintaining our project despite the huge curve ball that
was thrown at us.

If anyone would like to make a small donation to aid us in this time as we wait
for everything to come into place, please visit
http://www.lamica.org/ppsupport.htmland make a donation through PayPal (no
account needed). Even the smallest contribution goes a long way in Panama and
every penny will go to maintaining our project and most importantly our local
people during this time.

THANK YOU to everyone for continuing to believe in La MICA Biological Station
and our mission for conservation and humanity in central Panama!!
