The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is hiring an Assistant Extension Specialist in Wildfire Science and Management. This position will have both Extension (75%) and Research (25%) responsibilities and will be a full-time, 11-month, non-tenure track position. The candidate will work closely with internal and external collaborators as part of the newly established Pacific Fire Science Consortium (www.hawaiiwildfire.org/Pacific-Fire-Science-Consortium.html) to: (i) provide statewide extension leadership in wildfire science and management; and (ii) develop an applied research program focused on high priority wildfire science and management needs for Hawaii and US-affiliated Pacific Islands.
The position will be based at the Komohana Research and Extension Center of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources in Hilo, Hawaii, and will have responsibility for activities throughout the state, as well as for providing support to U.S.-affiliated Pacific Islands. Initial funding is available for two years, with strong potential for future funding (and a tenure-track position).
