Education and Logistics Coordinator

Description: The Great Basin Institute’s International Conservation
Volunteer Exchange (ICVE) seeks an Education and Logistics Coordinator. The
Education and Logistics Coordinator will perform both office and field
related functions and duties to support member management, project
management, and field-based education and curriculum. Primary
responsibilities include: 1) Developing and coordinating field-based
educational experiences for GBI restoration crews comprised of American and
international students; 2) Coordinating new member orientations and
training; and 3) Provide logistical support for restoration crew operations. 

Compensation:
This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend
of $7,000 for the season. This is not an hourly wage or a salary and is paid
to members bi-monthly throughout the entire season. Upon completion of
AmeriCorps service, members shall receive an additional education award in
the amount of $2,775 that can be used for paying off student loans, or
paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college. Housing is provided. 

Timeline: April 16, 2012 - October 12, 2012

Essential Functions and Duties: The Education and Logistics Coordinator will
assist the Program Director in management of the ICVE program, with a
specific focus on the following:
•       Work closely with the ICVE Program Director with orientation and 
training
of volunteers and interns; 
•       Development and coordination of field-based education and curriculum;
•       Recruitment and marketing of international programs through various 
social
media outlets;
•       Supervision and maintenance at ICVE lodging;
•       Maintain ICVE field supplies (tents, PPE) and keep updated inventory;
•       ICVE vehicle inspection;
•       Occasional assignments on restoration crews;
•       Instruct and provide proper oversight and direction for service crews;
•       Maintenance of all field data equipment and tools;
•       Maintaining accurate and detailed activity logs; 
•       This position will be required to work occasional weekends and 
holidays;        
•       Occasional field time and camping may be required;
•       Participation in GBI training opportunities; and,
•       Other duties as assigned by GBI staff.
•       This position will not have unsupervised access to vulnerable 
populations.

Qualifications:
•       Bachelor’s Degree in biology, resources management, or environmental
disciplines;
•       Experience developing and implementing environmental-based curriculum
required.
•       Knowledge of the natural and cultural history of the Great Basin and
Mojave Desert area highly desirable;
•       Experience implementing education and outreach programs, desirable but 
not
required;
•       Motivated, self-starter who is detail oriented;
•       Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities;
•       Ability to serve on a flexible schedule including evenings, early
mornings, and weekends;
•       Ability to work in rapidly changing environments;
•       Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a
diverse audience;
•       Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
•       Experience operating hand tools, chainsaws, generators, and other tools
related to conservation projects is desired but not required;
•       Possess clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license; and
•       Meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements: (1) U.S. citizenship or legal
resident alien status, (2) must be at least 17 years of age and a US citizen
that has received a high school diploma or GED (or be willing to achieve
this before using education award), (3) eligible to receive an AmeriCorps
Education Award (limit of four in a lifetime, or equivalent of two full-time
terms of service), and (4) pass National Sex Offender Public Registry
(NSOPR) and federal criminal background checks.
