I am seeking a motivated field assistant to work in Greenland as part of a
study of large herbivore (caribou/muskox) ecology from early May through to
the end of June, 2012. You will be helping collect data for my PhD thesis,
but will also be part of a larger team contributing to the long-term study
of the community and ecosystem ecology of western Greenland. Duties will
include scoring plant phenology on numerous plots on a daily basis, porter
duties, counting caribou, processing vegetation samples, setting up camera
traps, data entry, etc.

This is a volunteer position, however free transportation from upstate New
York to Greenland will be provided. You will be responsible for your own
camping equipment and food. You will be camping on the tundra for the
duration of this time period (mid May – end of June) with a small group of
other researchers, so previous experiences living/working in remote places
is preferred but not required. Quality applicants will possess a strong
academic background and exhibit a desire to work in a challenging but
rewarding environment.

Please send a brief personal statement and resume to Jeff Kerby
([email protected]) if interested. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling
basis.
