Hello Ecolog-ers! I am the Education Coordinator for Delaware Nature Society (DNS) at the DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC) located in Wilmington, DE. DNS is planning its Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 21 from 11am - 3pm EST. This event will have lots of what many have come to expect at an earth day festival… participation from local ‘green’ exhibitors, crafts and activities for families, nature walks, and naturalist led canoe trips.
In addition to the local theme, last year we piloted an activity that covered the “think globally’ aspect of earth day. We organized Skype chats with environmental professionals from around the world. Scientists from the Bahamas, Tanzania, and the Netherlands spoke about an environmental concern facing their country (lionfish, animal poaching, and wetland preservation respectively). They spoke for approximately 10-15 minutes and answered questions for 10 minutes. It was enjoyed by families and scientists alike and a great addition to our day. We are hoping to expand our global coverage this year! Please contact me if you are currently working outside of the US and are available on April 21st to talk to a group of excited Earth Day celebrators! Prior to the event we can discuss questions for your interview and schedule your call. Feel free to forward this request to anyone that may be interested. It will be very interesting to see where our celebration takes us this year!
