Job Description
SUMMARY
Supports implementation of the Presidio Park Stewards Program under
direction of the Presidio Trust Stewardship Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports weekly volunteer programs and service projects for youth and
adult groups; implements key components of restoration action plans
including invasive plant control and native plant community
revegetation; manages a Presidio stewardship site and maintains
program tools, facilities, and equipment; conducts adaptive
management and monitoring activities for rare and endangered plant
species; and assists in educating volunteers on the concepts of
ecological restoration, biodiversity, invasive species, and
conservation biology.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The position requires periods of standing, walking, climbing, and
lifting and carrying heavy objects. Work is performed both indoors
and outdoors with weather conditions ranging from hot, dry and dusty
to foggy, cold and rainy. There may be exposure to poison oak.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HOURS
The position requires working both indoors and outdoors,
independently and as a team, and involves working with a variety of
park staff and volunteers. The volunteer intern will be required to
drive or be a passenger in a motor vehicle. The position is for a
minimum of ten months and a maximum of twelve months beginning as
early as February 9, 2012. The volunteer intern is expected to work
40 hours per week on a Sunday through Thursday schedule.
ACCOMMODATION AND LIVING EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT
The position is considered volunteer. Volunteer interns will be
required to sign the Presidio Trust's Volunteer Agreement. Volunteer
interns will be provided dorm-style housing and must abide by the
Presidio Residential Rules. Volunteer interns will also be provided a
living expense reimbursement of $25/day that will be paid bi-weekly.
