*ABSTRACT SUBMISSION EXTENDED*

Abstract deadline: Sunday, January 8, 2012

We invite abstracts for an organized session entitled "Impact of Peatland Fires
on Ecosystem Function and Feedbacks to Climate: A Global Perspective" at the
2012 INTECOL-SWS Joint Meeting (June 3-8, 2012) in Orlando, FL.

Peat fires have emerged as an important issue to global climate change, human
health, and economic loss. We invite papers focusing on the vulnerability,
impact, and response of peatlands to fire, particularly those comparing
peatland fire dynamics across multiple biomes and feedbacks between climate
change and peat fires. Interdisciplinary submissions highlighting critical
research and management needs are encouraged, with the goal of enhancing
communication among researchers and stakeholders from the global peatland
community.

Feel free to contact the session organizers Brian Benscoter
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>) or Merritt Turetsky
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> ) for more information on the
session or visit the conference website
(http://conference.ifas.ufl.edu/INTECOL/) for information on the conference and
instructions for abstract submission.
