Aquatic Technician / Stream Typing Coordinator-01006064
Description
This position is a part of Research and Development. This is a Full
Time, Non-Exempt position.
Background:
As part of an interdisciplinary environmental research team, the
successful candidate will have primary responsibility for
coordinating the execution of Weyerhaeuser's 'stream typing' program.
Stream typing surveys determine the upper extent of fish use and
ensure that our forest management practices provide effective
protection for aquatic resources. The candidate will also participate
in field data collection and analysis to support a wide variety of
environmental research and technical support projects. Information
collected will be used in publications, presentations, and technical reports.
Key Functions:
Work with Weyerhaeuser's Environmental Forestry Research team
members, external contractors, Weyerhaeuser Operations personnel, and
Forest Practices regulators to ensure the successful execution of the
'stream typing' program.
Oversight of contractors and internal staff executing stream typing
surveys and related documentation.
Conduct and/or assist other team members with environmental
instrumentation, fish sampling, habitat surveys, vegetation
assessment, and other related environmental data collection.
Perform data entry, summary, and analysis.
Maintain equipment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BS or equivalent experience in Fisheries, Hydrology, Biology or
related environmental field.
Strong computer skills, with ability to analyze and manage data in
spreadsheet and statistical software.
Ability to work safely under adverse field conditions, and comply
with Weyerhaeuser safety Policies.
Must possess and maintain the physical capability to conduct field
work that requires frequent twisting, bending, stooping, lifting,
carrying of heavy equipment, and other strenuous physical activities
associated with working in steep, rugged terrain and streams.
Able to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
Able to apply full interest and effort to a broad range of topics as needed.
Willingness to travel within western Washington & Oregon (including
overnight stays) and work long field days as needed.
Valid driver's license and the ability to navigate safely on logging
access roads.
Pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check will be required.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience conducting regulatory surveys of fish use.
Familiarity with fish sampling and use of a backpack electro-shocker.
Experience managing projects and/or contractors.
GIS skills.
Additional experience in the fields of hydrology, aquatic biology,
plant ecology, and/or geology.
Familiarity and/or experience with Weyerhaeuser and/or the forest
products industry.
