Please find below information about field assistant Greetings all,
Please find below information about field assistant positions that I am looking to fill. Also note that I need one person for 8 weeks from Mid-March until the beginning of May. This would enable one to transition directly into another seasonal bird job, and I know that can be difficult at times. REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license, be able to identify Brown-headed Nuthatches and other common birds of the southeastern United States by voice and by sight, and be able to work independently in a remote location. Applicants must also be familiar with navigating by map, compass, and GPS and willing to regularly perform simple data entry tasks. Applicants will need to do simple vegetation surveys. Applicants must also be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal applicant will have a demonstrated passion for birds, be self-motivated and detail-oriented, and be comfortable with tent-camping for extended periods in a location that often will be without cell phone service or internet access. Likewise, the ideal candidate will be able to maintain motivation while working alone for extended periods of time in a hot climate and to tolerate biting insects. Experience with point counts, mist-netting, banding, and radio telemetry with small birds would be beneficial but are not required. DUTIES: The technicians may be required to perform avian point counts alone in remote locations. The technician will be expected to maintain neat and accurate records and keep up with data entry tasks each day. The selected candidates will also radio-track nuthatches and do simple vegetation surveys. Arrangements for camping and field housing will be provided. HOW TO APPLY: Compile a cover letter, CV/resume, and contact information for 3 references as a single PDF file. E-mail Rich Stanton at: [email protected]. The position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
