Announcing a new journal in river science: "River systems" The new journal, River Systems (ISSN 1868-5749, www.schweizerbart.de/journals/rs<http://www.schweizerbart.de/journals/rs>) is an international journal integrating landscape, catchment and human perspectives into a holistic view of river systems. It is dedicated to the promotion of innovative basic research and its application in management and conservation. Interdisciplinary research on rivers from the catchment and landscape perspectives is particularly welcome. "River Systems" bridges the gap between interdisciplinary research and management applications; it highlights science implementation at multiple temporal and spatial scales. "River systems" follows from the Archives fuer Hydrobiologie, supplement Large Rivers, which was first published in 1993. It has just published its second issue since 2010. Manuscripts may be conveniently submitted online (www.schweizerbart.de/journals/rs<http://www.schweizerbart.de/journals/rs>) and are published quickly online-first, before printed issues become available. The new title and format of the journal should appeal to both authors and readers, making "River Systems" a prime publishing venue for cutting-edge river science.
